a message to a friend on grief
When the ground gives way beneath me and the darkest depths become my resting place,
Sit with me there and rest with me a while.
I’ll rise when strength re-enters my limbs.
When I am overboard and the waves beat and batter my body,
Wrap me in a jacket of life and leave my frame to be tossed to and fro’.
Don’t break yourself pulling me to dry land, for I will find the shore when I am done drowning.
